The team at Trinity College Dublin (TCD) was delighted to welcome colleagues from Plio Surgical (PLIO), Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) and Amsterdam UMC (AUMC) to the Naughton Institute in Dublin City Centre for the project kick-off meeting on 10 and 11 June 2025. The Naughton Institute, located in the south-east corner of TCD’s city centre campus, is the home of CRANN and AMBER.
Across the two days of meetings, researchers discussed the proposed plans and activities for the scientific, communication, dissemination and exploitation and management programmes over the 30 months of the project. The meeting was also joined by the European Commission’s Project Officer, who attended remotely and presented the vision and expectations of the Commission and the European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA).
Each of the team members was able to present the expertise of their own organisations and the input that each group would provide in the development of the SMARTHEAL device and its sensors. There was plenty of opportunity for spirited discussion and exchange of ideas.
The intense scientific and research programme was accompanied by a number of elements of a social programme, including a networking dinner and a visit to the Trinity Centre for Biomedical Engineering laboratories.
There will be extensive discussion and a number of virtual meeting in the coming weeks and months, the consortium did agree on the tentative programme of follow-up, in person meetings, including visits to Amsterdam UMC in 2026 and to IIT in 2027.
