Prof. Joep Derikx is a (pediatric) surgeon in Amsterdam UMC and head of the department of pediatric surgery with a special interest in translational research with focus on understanding the pathophysiology and early detection of intestinal anastomotic healing and leakage. A 2019 VIDI-stipendium of the Netherlands Organization for Health Research and Development (ZonMw) enabled him to build his own research group on unravelling the mechanisms of intestinal anastomotic healing and leakage. A 2020 Horizon EU grant (GROWTH) helped him to continue his work in the understanding of the development of intestinal anastomotic leakage. Thereafter he received an Amsterdam UMC stipendium for midlife researchers which supports him to expand his research on this topic.
